virtual mercantile & gallery
doe began as a brick & mortar boutique on lower haight street, in the heart of san francisco, in may of 2004.
best described as a miniature department store, we stock a range of goods – from women’s clothing and accessories to baby goods and housewares.
truly a modern mercantile, we carry items from all corners of the globe. favorite brands have included: herve chapelier handbags and lcdp bath products from france, haba toys from germany, japanese housewares by decole, and millimeter / milligram papergoods from korea.
though our inventory is diverse, we specialize in women’s clothing and accessories. with an emphasis on west coast designers, we place a special focus on goods produced in california - particularly in the bay area. favorite local brands include: modaspia, anne kimball, dema, zoe chicco and maya brenner. other perennial favorites: prairie underground, woo, la made, james perse and stewart + brown. many of our suppliers use organically grown cotton, and all of our denim is sewn on the west coast.
more than a virtual boutique, doe-sf is also a design house. our brick & mortar shop featured seasonal art shows, and we are known for artistic collaborations. past collaborations have included: a redwood forest mural by jill bliss, custom clothing from modaspia, and signature jewelry from emiko oye and zoe chicco. many of our employees have also created original products for the shop.
in december of 2009, we became web only. we are pleased to bring our goods to a larger audience via this e-commerce site. much of our merchandise can still be purchased in-person at 629a haight street (between pierce and steiner) at merch boutique, the former space of our former brick & mortar shop.
inspired by nature and modern design; doe is organic, evolving, and always forward-thinking. visit our site often – the best is yet to come!
